How to Get into Illinois Dental School - Admission Advice

One.  Perhaps the most important step in finding out how to get into dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry is to first thoroughly familiarize yourself with the basic and minimal admission requirements to get into the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.  This includes thoroughly going through their official website and other official publications that describe the minimal requirements and prerequisites to get into the dental school training program at Illinois.  These requirements to get into Illinois Dental School may include prerequisite courses, specific entrance examinations, and deadlines of by when to complete them.  Be careful when assuming that certain courses can be transferred, so it is best to make sure with someone in the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry admissions office by contacting them directly.  Also remember to check other basic eligibility requirements such as residency requirements.  In addition, contact anyone in the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry admissions office of any other ambiguities of which you are not sure.  Try to do this as soon as you have decided that you would like to become a dentist and apply for dental school admission to obtain dental training, even if you are not totally sure yet that you wish to apply to Illinois Dental School.  After this, also check for the deadlines in which to register for specific courses or take certain entrance exams, or perhaps to even take the prerequisite courses that are required to take the Illinois Dental School prerequisite courses.

Sometimes, some schools are more willing to divulge such information, but other schools may be less willing.  You can try to ask what area or areas of the application or of the individual that they emphasize when selecting candidates for dental school training.  Other times, there may be special seminars or open houses at certain times of the year sponsored perhaps by the Predental Society in which they invite a high-ranking member of the Illinois Dental School admissions committee.  At those events, you can perhaps glean more specifically what the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry is looking for.  Besides preparing for the initial stages of the dental school application, also remember to prepare for later stages such as the dental school admission interview.

Four. Keep current with the current Illinois Dental School application cycle.  By this, this means that basic admission requirements may suddenly change, or that they may de-emphasize a certain area of the application.  It is therefore critical to stay up-to-date with the current stream of thinking that the Illinois Dental School is applying.  Therefore, it is good to have a general idea at the earliest stages of when you decide to apply for dental training so that you can prepare accordingly with the proper extracurricular activities, courses, skills, knowledge, and other preparations.  However, it is also a good idea to make sure just before you actually apply that those assumptions that you had at the beginning of applying to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry are still valid at the time of application.

Five.  Keep in mind what types of dental students got admitted into the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry during previous or earlier years. Sometimes, statistics may be available that describes some of the qualities of previously-successful dental school applicants.  It would definitely be a good idea to analyze some of this data if available.  This will give you a more realistic interpretation of whether or not you will be able to get into the Illinois Dental School dental training program. Often, though, even if statistics are available, they may only reveal certain types of information, so you may need to infer whether or not other areas of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry application are important and how much so.

Six.  In case that you do not get into Illinois Dental School this year and are curious why, sometimes they may be willing to meet with you to discuss.  Other times, they may give you certain reasons in the rejection letter.  Just keep in mind that situations may change in the following year and the reasons that they used to justify why you did not get in this year may actually be favorable attributes for you to enter the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry the following year.  Therefore, use your own judgment as you whether you feel you would like to change your strategy if re-applying in the future, if Illinois Dental School re-application is subsequently allowed.
